The launch of the Pura 80 Ultra is now severely delayed compared to that of its 70 Ultra predecessor - however, the latest word is that the 2025 Huawei flagship is still worth waiting for, as it might have something genuinely unique and brand-new to spring on the premium camera smartphone market.
The creation of in-house mobile image sensors is typically reserved for industry heavyweights such as Sony and Samsung; however, Huawei has been suspected of working to join them in the past. Now, those rumors are potentially substantiated with model numbers and other specs.
The prodigious leaker Digital Chat Station asserts that the very first 'Xmage-brand' image sensors will launch as the SC5A0CS and SC590XS.
They are both apparently 50MP and of the RYYB configuration - however, the SC5A0CS is of the top-end 1-inch form-factor while the SC590XS has the more conventional 1/1.3-inch form-factor.
The latter might still benefit from the same SuperPixGain HDR 2.0 technology, however, which has reportedly been unveiled as a new way to eliminate defects such as ghosting by "fusing" 3 identical frames taken with the same exposure value.
SuperPixGain HDR 2.0 is also believed to outdo OmniVision's competing sensors in terms of LOFIC with a dyamic range expanded to 110 decibels (dB) as opposed to 105dB.
At least one of these new sensors is predicted to debut in the Pura 80 Ultra, while they might also appear in successors to the premium Mate 70 series later in 2025.
