Home Assistant rolls out larger app update with new entity picker

The Home Assistant companion app for Android has received a major update. The version 2026.1.6 release, announced by the company on social media, brings a range of new features and improvements to users.
Firstly, Home Assistant has refreshed the onboarding experience for its Android app. You can find a screenshot of the app’s onboarding page below. A similar update appeared for the brand’s iOS update in the 2025.11.0 release. The company also notes that it has improved the Assist voice control tool with streaming text-to-speech (TTS), which should lower response times.
Home Assistant has also added a new entity picker to its Android app with version 2026.1 (see screenshot below). Again, this functionality is already available for iOS users, arriving in version 2026.1. This has added new filters for ID, name and area to enhance the user experience.
You can now download the Home Assistant app version 2026.1.6 from the Google Play Store. While there are no release notes on the app's page, users can find the complete changelog for this update on the official Home Assistant page on GitHub. In the next few days, users can also expect to receive a wider Home Assistant 2025.2 update for the open-source smart home automation software.
