Home Assistant 2026.2 arrives with new power distribution card

Home Assistant version 2026.2 is here. This latest version of the open-source smart home automation software arrives around a month after the 2026.1 release. This brought more purpose-specific triggers and a refreshed Settings page.
With Home Assistant 2026.2, the Home Dashboard is now the default for all new setups, named ‘Overview’. However, users who prefer the previous layout can make this their default view by choosing the ‘Overview (legacy)’ template under Settings > Dashboards. There is a new card in the For You section, displaying any new devices discovered by Home Assistant. Plus, in the recently added Devices area, users are now presented with ‘Assign area’ actions to quickly categorize devices by room.
Other notable changes in the Home Assistant 2026.2 release include the renaming of ‘Add-ons’ to ‘Apps’. According to the company, this is to help differentiate these standalone applications from integrations. There is a new Quick search function, triggered using Ctrl + K on Windows and Linux or ⌘ + K on macOS. Plus, the new distribution card can be used to monitor how your power is shared across various devices and appliances from your dashboard. New integrations included with this release include Cloudflare R2, Prana heat recovery ventilation systems and HDFury HDMI video processing devices such as the VRROOM (curr. $599 at Amazon).
