Grand Seiko's new compact watches announced with cherry blossom motifs on dial

Grand Seiko's Heritage Collection is getting two brand-new compact entries - the SBGX363 and SBGX365. Both models are scheduled for a January 2027 release and utilize the 62GS case design. This specific case style is a modernization of the brand's first automatic watch from 1967. Since there's no bezel, more light can hit the dial from various angles.
The stainless steel cases measure only 32.3 mm in diameter, which places them among the smaller options in the current lineup. They have a lug-to-lug distance of 39.0 mm and a thickness of 9.0 mm. This thinness is achieved through the use of the 9F51 caliber, which is Grand Seiko’s most compact high-accuracy quartz movement. The exterior finishing follows the Zaratsu standards associated with the 62GS family, with sharp, mirrored surfaces.
Dial design is based on the "Hana-Ikada" theme, which refers to cherry blossom petals floating on water. The SBGX363 features a soft pink hue meant to "evoke the vernal equinox". The SBGX365 uses a deep blue texture to represent the same petals under moonlight. Both dials are time-only, omitting a date window to preserve the pattern. A box-shaped sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating protects the face while staying true to that "vintage profile".
Both watches use the Caliber 9F51, rated for an accuracy of ±10 seconds per year. It keeps its signature 9F features, including the Twin Pulse Control Motor for driving heavy hands and the Backlash Auto-Adjust Mechanism to make sure that the second hand hits markers precisely. The movement also includes a regulation switch, with support for manual fine-tuning of accuracy during long-term servicing.
The watches come on a stainless steel bracelet with a 15 mm lug width and a tapered design for a closer fit. For durability, the cases are rated for 10 bar water resistance and 4,800 A/m magnetic resistance. Both the crown and case back are screw-down types to support these ratings. Grand Seiko plans to launch both models globally at boutiques and select salons. Pricing will be finalized at the time of launch in January 2027.
