New Grand Seiko SBGA521 launches as limited-edition titanium automatic watch with Spring Drive 9R65

Grand Seiko just introduced the Heritage Collection SBGA521 - this one is a new boutique-exclusive limited edition to celebrate the renewal of the Hankyu Umeda Main Store’s luxury floor in Osaka, Japan. This release features the popular "Hana-ikada" (flower raft) dial texture, but reimagines it in a violet hue inspired by the Takarazuka Revue and the department store’s signature branding.
The SBGA521 utilizes the 62GS Modern Design case - this is a contemporary take on the brand’s first automatic watch from 1967. The bezel-less construction means the violet dial can extend to the very edge of the boxed sapphire crystal.
The color palette references the "Sumire" (violet) flower. The dial features a soft violet-grey tone, alongside a blue power reserve indicator and a blue perimeter ring. Thanks to gold-toned elements, including the GS logo and the seconds hand, we get a sharp contrast against the textured "Hana-ikada" pattern, which is intended to mimic cherry blossoms floating on water.
Powering the watch is the Caliber 9R65, the foundational Spring Drive movement. It offers a 72-hour power reserve and a smooth, gliding seconds hand that Grand Seiko fans love. The movement is visible through a display case back, showing off the "Shinshu Wave" finishing on the bridges and rotor.
The new GS model is constructed from High-Intensity Titanium, which translates to the case and bracelet being significantly lighter and more scratch-resistant than standard stainless steel. The watch measures 40 mm in diameter and 12.8 mm in thickness. This edition is limited to just 45 pieces, which makes it an exceptionally rare regional exclusive. It is scheduled to coincide with the March 20 reopening of the "Hankyu Luxury" gallery in Osaka.
