Compact 35 mm f/1.7 full-frame lens promises high image quality thanks to 6 aspherical lens surfaces

After the Brightin Star 35 mm f/1.4 for the Leica SL system, the manufacturer presents its first fast lens for the Leica M with the Apex 35 mm f/1.7. The use of the Leica M mount has the great advantage that the lens can not only be conveniently focused with the rangefinder of a Leica M11, it is also possible to use the lens on cameras from Nikon, Canon or Sony, such as the Sony A7 III ($1,698 on Amazon), thanks to inexpensive adapters.
The lens has the typical look of a Leica M lens, with Brightin Star using glossy black paint and red lettering, as is also found on Leica special editions. The focus ring rotates 307 degrees, allowing the lens to be precisely focused manually; as is usual with Leica M lenses, autofocus is not possible. The minimum focus distance is only 30 centimetres, significantly closer than the 70 centimetres that are usual with Leica M lenses.
Above all, however, the lens is intended to impress with its high image quality. To achieve this, Brightin Star relies on a complex, apochromatically corrected design consisting of eleven lenses, which also includes three lenses with an aspherically ground surface on both sides and a floating lens group that can be moved independently of the rest of the focus group when focusing in order to improve image quality at close focus distances. The lens weighs 266 grams and is just 4.3 centimeters long.
