Ubuntu-based Zentyal Server 8.1 launches with multiple improvements and a 24.04 LTS base

Open-source email and groupware solution based on Ubuntu Linux Zentyal has been around since the summer of 2009 and, for about a year since its introduction, was known as eBox Platform. Release 8.0 arrived at the end of February 2024, and this Monday, its successor managed to finally come into the spotlight.
Taking advantage of an Ubuntu Server 24.04 LTS base, Zentyal Server 8.1 comes with the following highlights:
- A long list of fixes and improvements that touch networking, mail, Samba, and core system components.
- Improved system security with AppArmor protection, now expanded across multiple services.
- Enhanced dashboard and UI, including usability improvements and a new license widget.
- Network configuration reliability got multiple improvements and now features better validation and cleanup of bridge, VLAN, and bond configurations.
Zentyal Server 8.1 is a worthy Linux-powered alternative to Windows Server, and thanks to Samba integration, native compatibility with Microsoft Active Directory is now also included in the list of capabilities. Thanks to its ability to transparently manage Windows clients, Zentyal Server is often employed by private companies and public administration locations as a domain and directory server and a file server.
