Rhino Linux 2026.1 now available with Lomiri support
Designed for both PCs and mobile devices, Ubuntu-based Rhino Linux 2026.1 introduces the Lomiri user interface. The generic ISO images now come with the 7.0.9 kernel, while the special editions for Pine and Raspberry Pi hardware feature the 6.18.32 (PinePhone, PinePhone Pro & PineTab), 6.9.0 (PineTab2), and 7.0.0 (Raspberry Pi) kernels.

Rhino Linux is an open-source, community-maintained, Ubuntu-based rolling release distro based on Pacstall and Xfce. The ecosystem integrates an app for system information and software updates, a post-installation setup wizard, a package management wrapper for Pacstall, APT, Snaps, and Flatpaks, a release ISO builder, as well as a custom Calamares installer. With the 2026.1 snapshot images, Rhino Linux enhances the desktop/mobile user experience by introducing Lomiri on a wider range of devices.

Previously available for mobile users, Lomiri is now available via generic ISO images (x86_64/ARM64). According to the official blog post, Lomiri support on generic systems "is still considered an evolving experience," but the Rhino Linux team is "excited to continue working closely with the UBports team to provide improvements for Lomiri users on desktop and mobile."

This release cycle comes with the Pacstall 6.4.x series, which includes the DNUM and CDNUM internal variables, the PACSTALL_XTRACEFD and PACSTALL_XTRACEFDLOG environment variables, as well as the ability to export KVER to pre/post scripts. The full list of Pacstall-related improvements and fixes can be found on this page.

While the generic ISO images come with the 7.0.9-generic kernel, these are the other kernel versions available and the images that get them:

  • 6.18.32-sunxi for PinePhone & PineTab.
  • 6.18.32-rockchip for PinePhone Pro.
  • 6.9.0-okpine for PineTab2.
  • 7.0.0-raspi on Raspberry Pi.

Speaking of the latter, those interested can grab the CanaKit Raspberry Pi 5 Starter Kit PRO (Turbine Black, 8/128 GB) off Amazon for $259.95.

Back to Rhino Linux itself, the downloads can be initiated from this page, which provides a quick way (via dropdown menus) to all the ISO images that are hosted on SourceForge.
