HP has now released a cheaper 16-inch gaming laptop based on AMD Zen 4 and AMD Zen 5 processors. Also featuring the new Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 with 12 GB of RAM, the HyperX Omen 16 also comes with up to 32 GB of RAM and a 165 Hz refresh rate.

HP is continuing to expand its gaming laptop range with new releases. To recap, the company started selling a compact 15-inch model earlier this month. Also, it is now selling a new Omen Max 16 with AMD or Intel processors.

Moreover, it has started selling the Omen 16 with AMD processors at an even cheaper starting price than the smaller Omen 15. Specifically, the new Omen 16 starts at $1,999, although it is much higher than last year's AMD Zen 4-based model that we reviewed in October 2025 (curr. $1,299 on Amazon). At the time of writing, HP offers its new Omen 16 with the following processors:

  • Ryzen 7 8745HX (Zen 4)
  • Ryzen 9 8940HX (Zen 4)
  • Ryzen 9 8945HX (Zen 4)
  • Ryzen 9 9955HX (Zen 5)
  • Ryzen 9 9955HX3D (Zen 5)

Additionally, the 16-inch laptop can be configured with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 5060 (8 GB), GeForce RTX 5070 (8 GB) and GeForce RTX 5070 (12 GB) laptop GPUs. On top of that, HP will include 16 GB, 24 GB or 32 BG of DDR5-5200 RAM and 512 GB, 1 TB or 2 TB of PCIe Gen 4 storage. The new Omen 16 can be configured with 70 Wh or 84 Wh batteries too, as well as Wi-Fi 6 or Wi-Fi 7 connectivity.

Furthermore, HP sells 1200p/165 Hz IPS, 1600p/240 Hz IPS and 1600p/165 Hz OLED display options. Only the latter delivers up to 1,100 nits HDR peak brightness and 100% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, though. Please see HP's website for more details.

HP sells AMD versions of the Omen 16 in Ceramic White and Shadow Black finishes.
