Framework has now teased the launch of its 2nd Gen hardware numerous times, with the last mention involving a cryptic, emoji-laden message that had fans speculating about an upcoming gaming laptop or even a gaming handheld with Framework's repairable philosophy behind it.
Now, though, a post by AMD Ryzen on X, shared by AMD's head of consumer and gaming marketing, Frank Azor, has confirmed that AMD will join Framework at the February 25 launch event. This confirmation, along with the commentary shared by Azor, who has been heavily involved in AMD's Strix Halo and RDNA 4 marketing, suggests that Framework and AMD may be launching a product based on AMD's Strix Halo Ryzen AI Max 395+ APU.
This notion is supported by the previous Framework teaser, which was clearly hinting at gaming-grade hardware. The other emojis in the teaser seem to suggest that the hardware in question is also flexible, with a yoga emoji commonly interpreted online as a hint to a 2-in-1 device. This is incidentally the same APU and form factor as the Asus ROG Flow Z13 (2025), which recently impressed us with its iGPU graphics performance that traded blows with the Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060. The Radeon 8060S iGPU in question consists of 40 CUs with a GPU clock of 2,900 MHz.
It's also possible that the AMD product teased is one of the AMD Ryzen Z2 products, which would, in all likelihood, mean Framework is launching a gaming handheld, after all. Given Framework's previous hardware launches, which featured mostly productivity and general-purpose laptops and multimedia machines, the prospect of a gaming handheld as a mainline product as part of the 2nd Gen hardware launch seems unlikely. This is made especially unlikely by the low prices of the current-generation gaming handhelds, like the Asus ROG Ally Z1 Extreme, which retails for just $449.99 at Best Buy these days.
Whatever it is, Framework is slated to announce its 2nd Gen hardware on February 25 on YouTube.
