Several users had reported boot issues and with their ASRock motherboards and Ryzen 9000 series CPUs on the ASRock subreddit and the company has responded with a BIOS update meant to address said issues. The 3.20 update has been released for a range of X870, B850, B650, and A620 motherboards targeting the Ryzen 9000 series but primarily the Ryzen 9800X3D, which was at the core of the complaints.
There have been reports of similar issues with Gigabyte, MSI, and Asus motherboards as well but the majority of cases have been with ASRock boards. The ASRock subreddit has a dedicated “9800X3D Failures/Deaths Megathread” where moderators have tried to address user complaints. The instability and failure issues mentioning the Ryzen 9800X3D have been acknowledged, and the initial response was suggesting a flash back to an older BIOS.
Some users experienced the worst as their 9800X3D CPUs were allegedly dying during boot, having been paired with an ASRock motherboard. The ASRock moderators acknowledged that as well and provided a form for further investigation into these particular cases.
Now, the company has released update 3.20 Beta for the AM5 series motherboards that is expected to fix these issues. While ASRock global did not mention the reason for these boot issues, ASRock Japan cited memory compatibility issues as the cause, stating there have been at least 40 reported cases. The motherboards include two B650M Pro models, three A620M, 11 B850, and seven X870 models. The description simply states “Improve minority proportion of AMD 9000 Series CPU boot issues.”
