BIOS updates can sometimes take a while, but nothing comes close to what a Redditor experienced when trying to update the BIOS on his BioStar motherboard. Through a series of posts on Reddit, the user described how what was seemingly a slower-than-normal BIOS update took 100 hours in total and then ended with an unresponsive PC. Fortunately, he was able to get a new motherboard with the help of donations from supportive viewers.
About a week ago, Reddit user GoatWithAGun shared a photo of his BioStar A320MH motherboard updating the BIOS and at that time, it had already been four hours into the update process. Then, the next update came 16 hours into the update with the progress bar moving excruciatingly slow. About 24 hours later, it had made some more progress, but it was clear this was going to be a multi-day BIOS update. Following suggestions by interested commenters on Reddit, the user decided to livestream the update on YouTube at about the 36-hour mark.
The BIOS update continued and so did the livestream, finally ending at around 100 hours. However, it wasn’t as successful as many hoped for, and two days ago, GoatWithAGun shared an update on Reddit stating that the monitor lost signal from the PC and that the system was completely unresponsive.
The user was trying to update the BIOS for some stability fixes that were present in the new BIOS, and since the current BIOS was from 2018. The new BIOS was located on the boot SSD, which the user suspects could have caused the prolonged update time, but the reason is still uncertain. Fortunately, this wasn’t his primary system and was just a secondary machine for his dorm. After livestreaming the update process, GoatWithAGun also received some donations that helped him pay for a new motherboard.
