If you fancy immersing yourself in a post-apocalyptic adventure on the occasion of the new Fallout series, the current free-play event gives you the opportunity to play Fallout 76 for free. If you like the game, you can buy it at a heavily discounted price as part of the event.

To celebrate the release of the new Fallout series on Prime Video, Bethesda has announced a free-play-event for Fallout 76. From April 11 to 18, players can enjoy the online multiplayer game without any cost - on PC, Xbox One or PlayStation 4. While PC players can enjoy Fallout 76 completely free of charge via Steam during the event, console players will need an Xbox Game Pass Core or PlayStation Plus Essential subscription to participate. If you find yourself hooked and wish to continue playing after the event, you can purchase Fallout 76 at the discounted price of $8, down from $40 – that's an 80% discount.

The first online multiplayer in the Fallout series

Compared to other Fallout games, the scenario of Fallout 76 is set much earlier in time - in 2102, around 25 years after the fall of the atomic bombs. This gives an insight into the early days off Fallout and shows how society has regrouped and adapted.

Unlike previous Fallout games known for their strong single-player narratives, Fallout 76 shifts its focus to multiplayer gameplay and player interaction. Initially, the game faced criticism for its lack of NPCs, which many felt made the storyline less engaging. However, the situation improved with the major "Wastelanders" update, which introduced NPCs and traditional questlines. Despite these changes, the game's Metascore of 52 remains mixed.

As a player in Fallout 76, you emerge as one of the first survivors from Vault 76, tasked with exploring Appalachia, a post-apocalyptic version of West Virginia. In this setting, players complete quests, gather resources, construct shelters, and fight mutants. The game accommodates both solo and cooperative multiplayer gameplay. Players also have the option to engage in PvP combat; however, to prevent frustration among those not interested in player-versus-player conflicts, such interactions are consensual.
