Asmongold criticizes Star Wars Outlaws: "This is in my opinion one of the worst pricing themes that I have ever seen"
As announced in the latest story trailer, Star Wars Outlaws will be released on August 30th for PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S (available for pre-order here). While fans are happy about the imminent release, they are also critical of Ubisoft's pricing policy.
The standard edition of Star Wars Outlaws is priced at $70, but it does not include all story content. Access to the Season Pass, which covers two upcoming DLCs and includes the exclusive mission 'Jabba's Raid,' starts with the Gold Edition, priced at $110. For the Ultimate Edition, which features a digital artbook and additional cosmetic items, gamers will need to spend even more: $130.
Asmongold criticizes and suspects the reason for the high prices
The well-known streamer Asmongold, who has a fan base of around 2.5 million subscribers on YouTube, took a look at the different editions in his stream and sharply criticized Ubisoft's pricing policy:
"Look at the price difference here. 70 dollars versus 110 dollars - what's the difference there? 40 fucking dollars. That is insane. 40 dollars just to play the game 3 days early and have an extra mission and cosmetic (...) This is in my opinion one of the worst pricing themes that I ever seen."
Asmongold considers the Gold and Ultimate Editions to be completely overpriced, and he believes he understands why Ubisoft has chosen this pricing strategy:
"It's very clear that they're trying to use these high prices as a funnel to get people to subscribe to Ubisoft Plus, this is realy impressive."
The streamer suspects that Ubisoft may have deliberately set the prices so high to encourage players to sign up for the Ubisoft Plus subscription at $17.99 a month. This subscription provides access to the premium editions of all Ubisoft games, including the Ultimate Edition of Star Wars Outlaws.
Asmongold would have preferred to play a Sith
Many fans are excited that Star Wars Outlaws will feature the bounty hunter Key Voss instead of a Jedi, seeing it as a refreshing change. However, Asmongold appears less enthusiastic. He dismissively referred to it as "just some space bounty hunter bullsh*t. Who cares?" The streamer expressed a preference for playing as a Sith upstart, citing his reluctance to forego a lightsaber: "If you take the lightsabers out of Star Wars, it's boring," Asmongold commented.
