Ubisoft starts deleting The Crew from players’ accounts
Servers for The Crew, which is an online-only racing game, got shut down on April 1. This made the title inoperable as it doesn’t have any offline mode. It reportedly had at least 12 million players at the time Ubisoft took it down. Given its popularity, this action has made quite a number of gamers furious.
But it seems Ubisoft is taking one step further to ensure that the players can’t even launch it. According to player reports, the company is removing the racing game from their Ubisoft Connect libraries. When they try to launch The Crew, they get an error message saying they can no longer access it.
This removal of the game from players’ accounts may not seem like a big deal because the game is already unplayable at this stage. But gamers who owned The Crew are unhappy about it, as it should at least be in their collection because they have purchased it.
Moreover, some of the players are saying that this loss of access is preventing them from setting up private servers. That would’ve allowed them to enjoy the game even without official server support.
Some of the gamers are getting refunds for their purchases. But Ubisoft is only refunding the players who have got The Crew “recently.” While it’s unclear how recent the purchase needs to be, it’s pretty clear that you won’t be getting your money back if you had started playing it years prior. The same goes for a large player base, as the racing game is now nearly a decade old.
Also removed from my account. I'm in EU.
