Decathlon has unveiled a cheaper version of the Van Rysel E-EDR AF electric road bike. The company has replaced various SRAM parts used in the older model with Shimano elements to reduce the cost of the bike. The same Mahle motor is used for the latest e-bike, with an accompanying app and optional range extender battery.

The Decathlon Van Rysel E-EDR AF Shimano 105 2x11S electric road bike has been launched in Europe. The model follows the E-EDR AF SRAM APEX AXS 1x12, which launched in December. However, Decathlon has lowered the price of the e-bike by swapping a few parts.

For example, the SRAM APEX AXS 12-speed electronic groupset is replaced by a Shimano 105 11-speed groupset. This means a Shimano 105 R7000 rear derailleur and Microshift 11-speed 11-32 cassette are used instead of the SRAM APEX AXS derailleur and SRAM XPLR PG cassette. Plus, the newer model uses 60 mm Shimano 105 hydraulic disc brakes rather than the SRAM APEX equivalent. Both models are powered by a 250W Mahle motor with up to 40Nm torque and a top assistance speed of 25 kph (~16 mph). A 250Wh battery delivers up to 100 km (~60 miles) assistance range, which can be extended with an extra battery pack. The BC 900 GPS computer shows your remaining battery, with further information and controls available via the Decathlon Connect and Mahle apps, thanks to ANT+ and Bluetooth connectivity.

The e-bike has an endurance-style aluminum frame offered in two colors: red and lilac. There are five sizes from XS to XL, with the M model weighing under 14 kg (~31 lbs). The Decathlon Van Rysel Electrical Assistance Road Bike E-EDR AF 105 2x11S is now available in France for €2,500.00, in the Netherlands and Spain for €2,449.99, and in Italy for €2,489.99. This makes it roughly €300-€350 cheaper than the E-EDR AF SRAM APEX AXS 1x12. The new model is also listed with a £1,999.99 RRP in the UK, though it is currently out of stock.
