DJI has now released its Osmo Action 4 and Osmo Action 5 Pro (curr. $339 on Amazon) replacement ahead of the camera's global debut on November 18. Mirroring the Osmo Mobile 8 and Neo 2, the Osmo Action 6 has reached China before arriving in other markets. However, DJI has dropped its latest action camera without any warning of a November 13 launch whatsoever.
As expected, the main differences between the Osmo Action 5 Pro and Osmo Action 6 lie in the latter's new upgraded camera hardware. For instance, the Osmo Action 6 leverages the same 1,950 mAh (7.5 Wh) battery as its predecessor, which DJI rates for an identical 240 minutes of use between charges, which drops by a minute to 52 minutes for this generation. Likewise, the Osmo Action 6 carries across the 1.46-inch front and 2.5-inch rear OLED displays, which continue to deliver up to 800 nits peak brightness.
Meanwhile, DJI has swapped the 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor found across the Osmo Action 4 and Osmo Action 5 Pro for a new 1/1.1-inch equivalent boasting 13.5 EV dynamic range. Retaining a 155° field of view, DJI has complemented this lens with an f/2.0~f/4.0 variable aperture, as pre-release leaks suggested. The new Osmo Action continues to peak at 4K/60 (1:1) or 4K/120 slow motion (16:9) though, albeit while creating 38 MP photos.
The Osmo Action 6 starts at CNY 2,998 (~$422) with the camera itself, a 1,950 mAh battery and other basic accessories. Alternatively, DJI offers its new action camera in various combo packages that add accessories specific to certain use cases like mountain biking or snorkelling. While DJI has not confirmed global pricing yet, the Osmo Action 6 retails for around 15% more than the Osmo Action 5 Pro in China, which launched for $349 globally.
