With the Oukitel WP60, users can do more than just dive in shallow water and take multi-day trips off the grid thanks to its massive battery. The outdoor phone also sports a night vision camera that can capture images in complete darkness via infrared light.
How’s the quality of night vision pictures?
With a resolution of 8 megapixels, the camera isn’t particularly sharp, and that’s noticeable in the sample photos we took during our review. The image becomes very blurry, especially when zooming in on the orange on the tree. The autofocus also struggles at times, as seen in the picture of the watch.
The maximum range is around 10 meters, which is fairly good. However, nearby objects often appear like they’ve been illuminated by a flash due to the limited beam of the infrared LEDs, while the background remains pretty dark.
Oukitel’s night vision camera can do even more
However, taking regular photos is not the only use case of this phone. With the night vision feature, you can also see in the dark without being detected by animals, for example. This makes the feature interesting for observing wildlife.
You can take black-and-white photos in bright settings, as the camera is not blinded by strong light. Unfortunately, Oukitel’s night vision camera cannot record videos.
What else does the phone offer?
The night vision camera is a nice gadget, but users who are interested in the Oukitel WP60 should also consider a few other aspects. For instance, the rugged phone has a massive 7.2-inch display, which is one of the largest screens currently available on a smartphone. Its long battery life of nearly 24 hours in our WiFi test can also be an argument to buy this handset. More details and impressions can be found in our full review of the Oukitel WP60.
