New evidence of DJI's forthcoming camera gimbal refresh has emerged, following recent suggestions that it could occur as soon as next month. To recap, unreleased DJI smartphone camera gimbals surfaced on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in July. While the regulatory body did not reveal many details ahead of time, it did confirm that DJI was working towards launching at least the Osmo Mobile 8.
According to The New Camera, we can expect to see a Pro model joining its regular counterpart, too. For context, DJI complemented the Osmo Mobile 7 in February with the Osmo Mobile 7P (curr. $149 on Amazon), a more expensive variant that added features like three-axis stabilisation and an optional subject tracking module. Thus, we would expect DJI to introduce a new Pro model under the moniker 'Osmo Mobile 8P' rather than Osmo Mobile 8 Pro.
Moreover, the website expects DJI to integrate LiDAR across the range with up to 12 hours of battery life, DJI Mic series compatibility and possibly even ActiveTrack 8.0 support. Currently, it remains to be seen what the Osmo Mobile 8 series will look like. Please note that while a reseller has already listed the standard Osmo Mobile 8 in anticipation of DJI's official launch, the picture used is an Osmo Mobile 4 placeholder.
Nonetheless, the listing suggests that third parties anticipate a launch sooner rather than later. Added to that, the Osmo Mobile 8 was briefly available to order for $149. Unfortunately, it remains to be seen whether this pricing is merely indicative instead of a firm leak.
