Arlo has launched a whole range of new security cameras, including the Essential 3, which features an AI alert system capable of providing relevant notifications and detecting familiar persons, known vehicles, animals, and packages. The camera can also send alerts for fires or other unusual activities, such as a garage door left open. Arlo says the system can be trained to recognise such situations, though only extended testing will tell whether this feature is dependable. A paid subscription is required to unlock these advanced features.
The newly introduced lineup consists of three outdoor and two indoor cameras. As its name suggests, the Essential Pan Tilt Indoor comes with an integrated pan-and-tilt function, allowing larger spaces to be covered with just a single camera. By comparison, the Essential Indoor is a more basic model, priced at a lower $39.99, but features an automated privacy shield.
Among the new products are three cameras built for outdoor use. The Essential 3 Pan Tilt Outdoor has the ability to turn 360°, enabling it to track and follow people. The Essential 3 Outdoor drops the pan function but retains a spotlight and a siren. There is also an XL variant of the Essential 3 that offers four times the battery life of its non-XL counterpart for less frequent recharges. The Essential 3 and 3 XL are priced at around $69.99 and $79.99, respectively, whilst the pan-and-tilt model will set you back $59.99.
