According to early reports, DJI is preparing to update its Mini drone series with a new model. Allegedly launching next summer, the DJI Mini 5 is said to contain various upgrades over the existing Mini 4 Pro.

According to recent reports, the DJI Flip could soon make its official debut. However, the Flip appears to be one of several drones that DJI has in the pipeline. For instance, there has been evidence to suggest that the Mavic 4 and Mavic 4 Pro will be available within the next few months too.

Now, early information suggests that DJI could be preparing a new Mini series drone, as well. For context, while the Mini 4 Pro is now over two years old, the cheaper Mini 4K landed in the spring. As such, Jasper Ellens believes that a fifth-generation model will not be arriving any time soon.

Instead, the leaker expects the DJI Mini 5 to debut next summer, which begins on June 21, 2025. Nonetheless, Ellens and OsitaLV appear to have been sent the same photo of a Mini 5 or Mini 5 Pro prototype. Based on the single image that has emerged so far, DJI has included two additional front-facing obstacle sensing sensors, which are sandwiched between the cameras found on the Mini 4 Pro (curr. $999.99 on Amazon).

Reportedly these are LiDAR sensors, possibly the same ones that DJI already uses in the Air 3S. Moreover, Ellens suggests that the Mini 5 series will feature ventilated motors that are also more powerful than those found in the Mini 4 Pro. Allegedly, DJI has managed to achieve these changes without exceeding a 249 g official weight.
