DJI has released plenty of devices this year, including several drones. Most recently, the company presented the Mic Mini (curr. $169 on Amazon) as a much smaller alternative to the Mic 2 that it introduced at the start of the year. However, it is also said to have other devices in development, like a robot vacuum and a new camera gimbal.
Now, a new compact drone can be added to that list. While DJI has not officially revealed anything just yet, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) in the US has published initial documents containing information about the DJI Flip. Surprisingly, the regulatory body has even published a sketch of the drone that outlines various details in the process.
For instance, the DJI Flip sports propeller guards. Typically, the inclusion of propeller guards implies that a drone would support a first-person view (FPV) mode like the recent DJI Neo. However, Jasper Ellens reports that the Flip has been seen in public with a 'normal controller'.
As a result, he does not expect the DJI Flip to offer FPV compatibility. Nonetheless, it will have a much larger battery than the DJI Neo, which has a 1,435 mAh (10.5 Wh) capacity. By contrast, the FCC has revealed that DJI will ship the Flip with a 3,110 mAh (22.3 Wh) battery. Unfortunately, other details and a release date remain unknown for now.
