Reviews for the Asus Zenbook S 14 UX5406
Asus has presented its first laptop featuring Intel's new Lunar Lake processors, namely the Zenbook S 14. It comes with a 14-inch OLED screen, 32 GB RAM, a ceraluminum coating and the fastest iGPU currently on the market. Update: More Benchmarks including Adobe, Gaming & XeSS
After the release of the Snapdragon X Elite chips as well as the AMD Zen 5 CPUs, Intel has finally launched its new Lunar Lake mobile processors. These are completely new chips with a focus on efficiency—plus, Intel has done without hyperthreading for the first time. But how efficient are the new models really and has too much performance perhaps been sacrificed? Update: Benchmarks results Core Ultra 7 256V & Core Ultra 9 288V
The Intel Lunar Lake processors are equipped with new integrated graphics adapters featuring second-generation Xe cores. We evaluated the performance and efficiency of the new Arc Graphics 140V, which is equipped with 8 Xe cores. Update: Additional benchmarks for Adobe, gaming at 28W and for the fastest 140V as well as the 16 GB version

At the end of the day, battery life is often the key deciding factor for laptop buyers. While this can vary widely across different models, the Zenbook S 14 has shown that laptops powered by the Core Ultra 7 258V (or the higher-end Core Ultra 9 288V) can be incredibly thin and light, excel at productivity tasks, and still manage to outlast even the longest direct commercial flight from Singapore to New York. That’s impressive, especially when compared to Qualcomm or AMD laptops, which, as of now, haven’t matched this level of efficiency. While Microsoft has been pushing its Copilot+ PCs with AI-driven features like Cocreator and Live Translation, these are currently exclusive to Snapdragon laptops.

The Asus Zenbook S 14 delivers a solid performance thanks to the new Lunar Lake processor, has a fantastic battery life, and its ceralumium finish is delightfully durable yet lightweight. However, expect to pay up for the laptop's excellence, and be ready to buy a USB hub as this things doesn't have many ports.

We can finally talk about the benchmarks and battery life for Intel's Lunar Lake, in this case its the Core Ultra 7 258V review. This could also be considered the Ultra 7 256V review too. Intel had a lot of promises for these CPUs including crazy battery life and very good performance in everyday office and creator apps but now its time to put those claims to the test!

Overall, Asus' new Zenbook S 14 is a really solid 14-inch thin-and-light Windows 11 laptop. The build quality and aesthetic design is arguably top-notch, the port selection is fairly generous, and it offers extra quality-of-life additions like Windows Hello and Presense Sensing technology. The OLED display is attractive, and it's bordered by thin bezels that make the device feel contemporary and high-end. While the keyboard was a joy to type away on, I found myself longing for a haptic trackpad throughout my entire time with the notebook.New Intel-based PCs including the Zenbook S 14 take a big step-up in terms of power efficiency, and I never found myself unhappy with battery life during regular use.

For all intents and purposes, the Asus Zenbook S 14 is a good laptop with a gorgeous design, mouthwatering OLED panel and top notch ergonomics. But Intel is the problem here — Lunar Lake is heading in the right direction in terms of battery life, but in a Snapdragon X Elite world, it falls just shy.

If you’re considering an Intel-based laptop, the ASUS Zenbook S 14 is an easy recommendation. It’s solidly built, sleek, and offers outstanding performance and battery life. At S$2,799, it’s undeniably a premium product, but as an introduction to Intel’s Core Ultra 200V series, it makes a strong statement as a high-end Windows ultraportable.

As a review of a new Intel processor, I have to admit I’m slightly let down. The battery life is there, and that’s no small feat. But the CPU performance represents more of a lateral move, which is never what you want to see in a new generation. On the other hand, battery life is likely the metric that you’ll care more about in this type of laptop. A slightly faster CPU won’t make your web browsing, YouTube watching, and Slack chats go any faster. You may, however, notice a few extra hours of battery life. From the Windows side of things, it’s the official battery life champion, and considering how much pressure the Snapdragon X Elite devices put on Intel, I’m thoroughly impressed.

The Asus Zenbook S 14 gives us our first look at an Intel Lunar Lake laptop, the follow-up to the first AI processors the chipmaker introduced last year under the codename Meteor Lake. Intel is sticking with the Core Ultra branding; this new generation of processors is simply labeled Core Ultra Series 2. Last year's Core Ultra chips introduced a radical new chiplet architecture along with a neural processing unit to handle AI tasks. With these new Core Ultra 200V chips, Intel is promising greater efficiency for better battery life along with an uptick in CPU performance and a big boost to graphics performance from the integrated Arc GPU.

Lunar Lake laptops are coming and they're going to be thinner and more powerful than ever while offering insane battery life. And the new Zenbook S 14 with the Intel Core Ultra 7 258V will be leading the charge. Its looking like this is one of the best thin and light laptops you'll be able to buy in 2024.

Intel Arc 140V: A pretty fast integrated graphics adapter that higher-end Intel Lunar Lake family processors employ. This is a direct successor to the Arc 8; it can drive three SUHD 4320p monitors simultaneously via HDMI 2.1, eDP 1.5 and DP 2.1. With the 140V, all 2023 and 2024 games are playable at 1080p on low graphics settings.
With these GPUs you are able to play modern and demanding games fluently at medium detail settings and HD resolution.

There are hardly any tablets in this display size range anymore. For subnotebooks, on the other hand, it is the standard format.
The advantage of subnotebooks is that the entire laptop can be small and therefore easily portable. The smaller display also has the advantage of requiring less power, which further improves battery life and thus mobility. The disadvantage is that reading texts is more strenuous on the eyes. High resolutions are more likely to be found in standard laptops.
