I think it is fair to say that if MSI is kind of the best in the gaming laptops (as there are lots of other good competitors), Asus is kind of the best in the ultrabook segment (need to consider Dell XPS, Lenovo Thinkpad models as well). So, the Zenbook series is what I have in front of me. Specifically, the UX391. Why do I have it today? A few reasons. First, weight. It only weighs 1.1 Kg. Can you believe it? Think about the mobility. While carrying whether you have a notebook sleeve or keep it in your backpack, you would not even notice it is there. Secondly, the Intel 8th Gen. i7 CPU. Oh my. Third, 16 GB of RAM. What else can be there? Oh, I know. A touch screen, 4K resolution, Asus Pen, USB dock, Thunderbolt 3 and the list goes on. Any disadvantages? Well, I can only think of DDR3 2133 MHz RAM. That's a bit disappointing, but I have not seen a model from Asus that has utilized DDR4 RAM in this segment. I change my words, it is really disappointing. Apart from that, the reason why I picked this model is because of its potential. It literally targets people that are looking for mobility. But do you need the touch screen when the design is not convertible? Flipbook S series has models with specific configuration and they have 360 degree hinges, which makes more sense with touch screen. For me I would have omitted the touchscreen and go for another SKU with a regular screen. As someone who does lots of typing, doing development on the side, opening tons of software at the same time, this beauty is a beast. I do not feel the need to talk about keyboard, quality of the case etc. They are all top notch. Here is the thing, beauty comes with a cost, in the literal meaning. UX391 is not cheap and not sure if it is for everyone. If mobility is your thing and you do not mind extra 150 grams or so you have the option to go for Dell XPS 13 models and if you add another 250 grams to that there you have HP's Elitebook 840 G5. When there are other options to pick, it becomes harder to make a decision. If the money is not a problem, Asus and Dell are the picks to go. If your budget is a bit tight, then you can go for HP. Even with Dell and Asus, I am not sure if 4K is really necessary. It is better to find the models first and try from first hand before making a purchase online. To conclude, the laptops come loaded with pretty interesting specifications. The ZenBook Pro 15 gives a stiff competition to MacBook Pro 15, though it features the similarly-inspired Touch Bar in select MacBook Pro models. The ZenBook S and ZenBook 13 are the ones that will face a stiff competition from the brands like Lenovo, HP, Acer and Dell.

Finally, while it’s great to have a compact, lightweight chassis, good battery life in balance with no compromise productivity performance is what really separates excellent ultrabooks from the merely good. You want an ultraportable machine because you want to be able to use it easily on the road, and you can’t really do that if it isn’t going to last you a good amount of time. Fortunately, the ZenBook S serves up decent battery life, coming in only slightly behind the Dell XPS 13.

The ZenBook S series never fails to impress. As soon as you take the laptop out of the package, you can tell why it is considered a premium device. It looks stunning and at the same time, it is built like a tank. This is not only due to the use of metal for the body, but also because everything inside is pretty tightly packed. Of course, this leads to some setbacks like the lack of SODIMM slots for memory expansion. All in all, the ZenBook S UX393 is a surprisingly complete package. You get a long enough battery life, a ton of features, including the in-house noise cancellation, and a ton of performance. And this is in a form factor that suggests that you are on your business edge.

The ZenBook S is usually the model where ASUS would go all out, and its current iteration continues to impress in both looks and performance. While you have to pay a very steep price for the ZenBook S UX393EA–with a price that is close to Apple’s mid-tier MacBook Pros–you get what you pay for, as this Intel EVO-certified notebook has a better set of components to let you make the most out of its battery life while enjoying its gorgeous 3:2 3K display.

Being one of the latest brands to shift to a 3:2 aspect ratio for their ultrabooks, it is no secret that ASUS wants to take a jab at Apple’s Intel-powered MacBook Pros with the ZenBook S UX393EA. While it is one expensive notebook–considering that it is not a 2-in-1 convertible–we will have to do our usual set of tests if it is worth spending close to Php 100k for the ZenBook S UX393EA.

While I can't draw final conclusions on the ZenBook S UX393 based on this early sample alone, I can tell you that this is one of the most complete ultrabooks on the market right now: it's very well crafted, offers an excellent wide-gamut touchscreen, doesn't compromise much on the IO and is a competent Tiger Lake implementation, backed up by a big battery. However, I need to further clarify our findings in the typing and efficiency sections before wrapping this up. We'll get in-depth on all these aspects down below.

The Asus ZenBook S 13 OLED lives up to its name – its OLED display is stunning, with huge quality and clarity. Beyond that, this laptop is slim, light and has a great keyboard. Its battery life impresses, and it’s got the power for multi-tasking and mainstream creative work. Its price even undercuts most rivals. That’s not to say the Apple MacBook Air M2, Dell XPS 13 and other rivals are without their charms. Apple’s machine is faster. The Dell XPS 13 is slimmer than the Asus and it has Thunderbolt, and the XPS 13 Plus is available with faster processors and OLED panels. There’s no doubt that the ZenBook is a great competitor, though – easily able to stand alongside those other laptops. Its great screen, solid internals and lengthy battery life make this an excellent ultraportable.

The most notable downside that I see with the Ryzen 7 6800U is that its media consumption capabilities are still not as good as they should be. Intel’s competing solutions even from as far back as 10th Gen Ice Lake have better capabilities with real-world media types in my own testing. And even in isolation, the inability to play 8K60 content from YouTube is not really a great showing for a 2022 market where 8K60 video output genuinely is not unreasonable. Still, there’s plenty to like from the Ryzen 7 6800U; excellent power efficiency delivers excellent battery life, and that efficiency also allows the powerful chip to be squeezed inside alluring, ultraportable laptops such as this sub-15mm, 1kg ASUS ZenBook S 13 OLED. The ASUS laptop is glorious – they’ve done a really good job at deploying high-end hardware that is fitting of the highly-competent Ryzen processor. Ample Type-C connectivity, impending USB4 support, a 2.8K OLED touch display – this laptop ticks many boxes.

If you have come this far, you know that the Zenbook S 13 OLED is best suitable for business and creative professionals who want performance without any compromise on the battery life. Add to it the OLED screen, which is sharp and offers accurate colours. Design is usually subjective and, if you ask me, I really like the overall design. I do wish for an SD card slot, considering the laptop’s target audience. A less powerful version of Ryzen 7 6800U, with no high refresh rate display and no dedicated graphics, is a clear sign that the laptop is not a go-to gaming machine. However, you too, like me, can do some casual gaming on the Zenbook S 13 OLED. If you want a macOS alternative for a similar use case, there is the new MacBook Air M2 coming soon. Apple has already unveiled the MacBook Air M2 and it is expected to go on sale soon in India. The Air M2 is priced at Rs 1,19,900 for the base configuration. However, we still have not reviewed the laptop, so there’s no easy recommendation as yet for that one. The generation-old M1 MacBook Air is still up for grabs but we would suggest waiting for the M2 MacBook Air since it comes with a bunch of upgrades over the outgoing model.

So in conclusion. Previously, I called the ASUS Zenbook 14 OLED UX5402 with the Intel Core i7-1260P a “near-perfect” laptop. Then, is the ASUS Zenbook S 13 OLED UM5302 the perfect laptop? Well, not exactly. As an ultrabook, the performance is absolutely magnificent. I’d say it’s at the top of its class, especially for an x86 chip that only consumes 28W. The build quality is something that you may or may not prefer since it’s lighter in weight, and it also has a 60Hz touchscreen OLED. Honestly, for me, I’ll pick this Zenbook S 13 OLED UM5302 over the other laptop. This suits my usage behavior more. For the local availability, the Zenbook S 13 OLED UM5302 is priced at RM5,999 for the exact same configuration that we are reviewing, and there are no other configurations available. I think the price is just too hefty. And that’s all we have to share with you. This is a magnificent laptop.

The ZenBook S 13 is a more compelling ultrabook than any of its 13-inch ZenBook predecessors before, and one of the best-value ultraportables available as of mid-2022. That's partially a consequence of the multiple improvements that Asus brought to this design, as well as of the implementation of the excellent AMD Ryzen 6000 hardware platform, even if it doesn't run at its full potential in this compact and power-limited chassis.

We’ll know more once we get a final review unit with the finalized BIOS and software. We’ll be able to have a better picture of the power settings, overall performance, and the noise/thermals of this configuration. Based on what I’m seeing so far, this ZenBook S 13 is going to be an excellent ultrabook, quiet and efficient with daily use, and a competent performer for its class when needed. I’m not entirely happy with Asus pushing their OLED panels so aggressively, though, and no longer offering any IPS options. This OLED screen sure looks awesome, but I’m mostly using my laptop outside when traveling, so I preffer an anti-glare matte finishing, as well as the hassle-free experience of a proper IPS panel. The other potential deal-breaker for me is the USB-C only IO, as I preffer having at least access to an USB-A port without requiring an adapter. The previous ZenBook 13 offers a USB-A port and a full-size HDMI, but this 2022 model does not. Still, if these aren’t bothering you and you are in the market for a versatile 13-inch ultraportable, then the Asus ZenBook S 13 UM5302 could be the one for you.

There’s a lot to love about the ASUS Zenbook S 13 Flip OLED. The clean, lightweight, and compact design makes this laptop easy to lug around practically anywhere. Its beautiful OLED screen has touch functionality and is paired with good speakers. It also has a long battery life with quick-charging capability. Performance is stellar overall, and the flexible design allows for a wide range of use. To top it all off, this convertible comes bundled with accessories that maximize its functions (and offset the lack of built-in ports). If you’re willing to pay the premium—P109,995—or are particularly looking at the P100K+ price range, the Zenbook S 13 Flip OLED is a great option to consider.

The Asus Zenbook S 13 Flip OLED is an excellent ultraportable, a better 2-in-1, and an impressive OLED laptop. The main problem with it? It's cursed by its lofty price, which pits it against other, equally impressive competitors. On its own, the Zenbook Flip OLED would hoover up awards based on its build quality and feature set alone, but when stacked against similar models, this slim little laptop doesn't shine quite so brightly. If you want a fantastic 2-in-1, the Asus Zenbook S 13 Flip OLED would be a fine choice, with a lightweight but durable design, a long-lasting and fast-charging battery, and a display that not only looks appealing, but gives you a rivaling tablet experience, too. If you want better performance, though, there's the Acer Spin 5 (2022), which generally outperforms it, and the HP Spectre x360 13.5 (2022), which continues its reign as our Editors' Choice pick, thanks to speedy performance and even longer battery life.

The Zenbook S 13 Flip has some strong competition as a convertible 2-in-1, particularly when matched up against the slightly more expensive HP Spectre x360 13.5 and less expensive HP Envy x360 13. But it hangs tight, providing excellent performance and strong battery life to go with its thin and light chassis. I’d go with one of HP’s offerings in this product category, especially with how affordable the HP Envy x360 13 is right now. I wouldn’t blame you for opting for the ZenBook S 13 Flip either, though, especially given how light the chassis is when using it in its different modes.

This latest iteration of the Asus ZenBook S 13 Flip is now one of the better 2-in-1 ultrabooks available in stores. This model is cleaner looking and sturdier built than before, offers uncompromised inputs and a beautiful OLED display, and implements higher-power specs and a superior cooling design. At the same time, you have to accept the USB-C-only IO without full-size ports, the lack of any non-OLED screen options, and a higher price compared to the clamshell ZenBook S 13 model.
