Apple releases iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 updates with new features and Apple Pencil hover upgrades
Apple has finalised iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4, which it has been public beta testing since the middle of February. As always, Apple has brought more or less the same changes to iOS and iPadOS, save for two differences. Specifically, Apple continues to improve crash detection on the iPhone 14 series. While Apple has not disclosed the changes it has made to crash detection, it is now available in Austria.
Additionally, iPadOS 16.4 contains Hover Mode refinements, but only for iPad Pro models with the Apple M2 chipset. According to Apple, iPadOS will recognise the angle at which an Apple Pencil is held when up to 12 mm away from the display, rather just the distance between the Pencil and the display. Theoretically, the change allows apps like Procreate to present a more accurate brush preview with the Pencil in Hover Mode.
Moreover, Apple has integrated 21 new emojis, as well as home screen notification icons for web apps. Apple adds that iOS 16.4 improves voice isolation clarity by refining its ambient noise algorithm. iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 are available to download now. Apple has also outlined the security changes that iOS 16.4 and iPadOS 16.4 contain, which it lists in a dedicated support document.
