CAD renders of Apple's alleged 'Taptic buttons' have surfaced online, as well as its rumoured solid-state mute switch. Previously, these buttons were missing from older leaked CAD files. Files shared by chenwen1987 on Douyin now show what to expect from Apple's next-generation flagship smartphones, which are expected to land this September.
Specifically, Apple will adopt a single button for volume controls, eschewing the dedicated volume up and down buttons of existing iPhones. Based on earlier rumours, the Taptic button is pressure-sensitive and will recognise volume up/down presses without moving itself. Theoretically, iOS could adjust volume faster when the Taptic button detects a harder press, although it remains to be seen whether it will generate haptic feedback like Apple's Force Touch trackpads.
Meanwhile, the mute switch will retain its positioning but will also return as a solid-state button. In comparison, the regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are thought to maintain Apple's existing physical mute switch. Taptic volume and lock buttons are expected to be iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max exclusives too. Unfortunately, it is unclear how Apple will integrate these pressure-sensitive buttons for now.
