The 15 series is thought to be the first generation of iPhones to drop traditional physical buttons - the famous mute switch included - in favor of a more futuristic alternative. Now, a leaker reinforces this theory with assertions that the devices in question will have 3 types of these new solid-state side-mounted controls each: a "power button", a "volume rocker" and an "Action Button".
That last term might be most familiar to those who own an Apple Watch Ultra, which boasts one of these Buttons, a prominent orange hardware feature that can be re-mapped to things like specific work-outs, a stopwatch, messages on a paired iPhone or the wearable's Wayfinder feature.
However, the iPhone version might go even further, touted to challenge some Android UIs with a long list of customization options currently thought to include: jumping straight to all kinds of system or UI targets such as the App Library, Do Not Disturb modes, notifications or the lock screen; switching the cameras on; taking a screenshot or, of course, toggling a silent mode on or off.
All in all, these tips might help explain earlier rumors of iPhones poised to go "Ultra" for the first time in 2023. Then again, their upgrade to these new, potentially more versatile and innovative controls remains to be seen.
