Earlier today, we reported that AYN Technologies had started teasing two new gaming handhelds. On the one hand, the company's initial post confirmed that it would finally be moving on to third-generation Odin handhelds after releasing the Odin2, Odin2 Portal and the Odin2 Mini (curr. $349 on Amazon). As is well established, AYN also sells Pro and Max versions of these Odin2 options with the same underlying hardware but higher memory capacities.
On the other hand, the company teased an entirely new product segment called 'Thor'. While AYN confirmed that Thor was not a return to the company's x86 days, it did not provide any further information. Typically, AYN waits at least a few days before revealing any further details about an unreleased gaming handheld.
This time, though, it seems that AYN is not waiting around. Out of nowhere, the company has now posted a short video showcasing the AYN Thor on its YouTube channel. Embedded above, the video confirms that the AYN Thor is a clamshell Android gaming handheld in the vein of the Ayaneo Pocket DS rather than the Retroid Pocket Flip 2.
As such, the AYN Thor has a dual display setup with controls flanking a smaller secondary display. Moreover, it is evident that AYN's first clamshell gaming handheld features a Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset, an active cooling solution and upward-firing speakers. On top of that, AYN has included RGB backlit joysticks with bottom-oriented 3.5 mm jack and USB Type-C connections positioned between a pair of lanyard holes and hardware buttons. Please see the video above for more details.
