Anbernic and Ayaneo have flooded the Android gaming handheld market with new models lately. To that end, the latter released the Pocket DS yesterday with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon chipset found inside its other recent Android devices like the Pocket EVO. Now AYN Technologies, AYN for short, has returned after a period of absence.
For context, AYN last launched a new device in October 2024 when it started selling the Odin2 Portal with a 7-inch, 120 Hz and 1080p OLED display with the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset used across all Odin2 series gaming handhelds. This time, the company has confirmed that it is developing a successor to the popular Odin2 (curr. $379 on Amazon), which is almost two years old.
As the teaser below shows, AYN has more than the Odin 3 or Odin3 up its sleeve. Additionally, the company has revealed that the AYN Thor exists. Based on today's announcement, it would seem that AYN plans to release the Odin3 and Thor simultaneously.
Currently, next to nothing is known about either device beyond the fact that neither will be x86-based. The suggestion by some AYN Discord members that the Thor could be a smaller alternative to the Odin3 makes sense, although that is only based on Thor being the son of Odin. Presumably, AYN will start presenting details about both devices later this month.
