AYANEO has lifted the lid on the Pocket EVO, is fourth Android-based retro gaming handheld. Seemingly, the company is hoping to distinguish the device from other high-end models like the AYN Odin2 and Odin2 Mini by including a 120 Hz OLED display.

In recent years, AYANEO has been best known for releasing Windows handhelds with AMD APUs, including the Ryzen 7 8840U-powered AYANEO 2S, AYANEO AIR 1S and AYANEO KUN. However, the company has been slowly expanding its Android-based offerings, which it sells under the 'Pocket' series. To recap, the Pocket series has consisted of Pocket Air, Pocket S and Pocket DMG so far, although the latter has not yet received a full global release.

Nonetheless, AYANEO has started teasing a new model that it has billed as a 'flagship Android handheld' 'transcending the classics, innovating evolution'. In a blog post, the company explains the desire to introduce what it has called the Pocket EVO:

As game graphics and genres (such as streaming games, cloud games, high-score and high-brush mobile games) continue to evolve, the demand for larger-screen Android handhelds is increasing. Adhering to its "Real Gamers Know Gamers." philosophy, AYANEO has addressed this need by launching the AYANEO Pocket EVO, a 7" OLED Android handheld with a larger screen.

EVO stands for "Evolution," signifying a significant advancement. The AYANEO Pocket EVO represents a new era for Android handhelds, pushing the boundaries of high-end flagship devices. With its larger screen, industry-leading design, and cutting-edge technology, it empowers players to unlock an unparalleled Android handheld experience.

As usual, AYANEO has not revealed too many details about the Pocket EVO yet. Instead, it has only confirmed a few display specifications. Specifically, the Pocket EVO's 7-inch panel will output at 1,920 x 1,080 pixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Moreover, the panel will combine OLED technology with a 120 Hz refresh rate to take on other popular high-end Android gaming handhelds like the AYN Odin2 (curr. $449 on Amazon) and Odin2 Mini.

Furthermore, it seems as though the Pocket EVO features three sets of shoulder buttons, mirroring the Pocket DMG. On top of that, the outline of the device shows a strongly rounded housing akin to the AYANEO 2S. Although a release date remains unknown for now, AYANEO has hinted that it will reveal more information about the Pocket EVO on July 10 at 12:00 UTC.
