HyperMegaTech has returned with a new set of Super Pocket retro gaming handhelds. Available to pre-order globally from July 31 ahead of an October 2024 release, the two new devices come pre-loaded with licensed Atari and Technos games, depending on the model chosen, and remain compatible with all existing Evercade cartridges.

HyperMegaTech has presented a new set of Super Pocket retro gaming handhelds, eight months after introducing Capcom and Taito editions (curr. $55.99 on Amazon). For reference, HyperMegaTech is a spin-off of Blaze Entertainment, the company behind the Evercade ecosystem. As such, the two original Super Pocket gaming handhelds are compatible with all Evercade cartridges, as are the new editions that have just been announced.

As the photos above and below show, HyperMegaTech has agreed licenses with Atari and Technos. So far, the following games have been announced for each respective system:

Super Pocket Atari Edition

  • Adventure
  • Asteroids
  • Berzerk
  • Centipede
  • Crystal Castles
  • Final Legacy
  • Frenzy
  • Food Fight
  • Miner 2049er
  • Missile Command
  • Ninja Golf
  • Warbirds
  • Yars Revenge

Super Pocket Technos Edition

  • Double Dragon
  • Double Dragon II: The Revenge
  • Double Dragon III: The Rosetta Stone
  • River City Ransom
  • Super Double Dragon

While that list may seem on the light side, HyperMegaTech states that 50 titles will be pre-installed on the Atari Edition covering Atari 2600, Atari 5200, Atari 7800 and Atari Lynx systems. By contrast, the Technos Edition will feature a paltry 15 games pre-installed. Fundamentally, the new Atari and Technos Editions are the same devices as the ones that HyperMegaTech released last year. Consequently, both models feature a 2.8-inch IPS display running at 320 x 240 pixels, plus a four-hour battery life and a control layout that lacks any joysticks.

The new Super Pocket models are available to pre-order on July 31 for £49 in the UK, $59 in the US and €59 in the Eurozone. Although the company is accepting pre-orders later this month, it does not anticipate that any orders will begin shipping until sometime in October 2024. Please see HyperMegaTech's website for further details.
