AYANEO Pocket DMG: New OLED retro gaming handheld begins road to release as pre-orders open
Almost two months have now passed since AYANEO shared more details about the Pocket DMG, its second Snapdragon G3x Gen 2-powered gaming handheld after the Pocket S. For context, Qualcomm announced the chipset almost a year ago. Nonetheless, the lack of Snapdragon G3x Gen 2 releases means that the Pocket DMG remains one of the most powerful Android gaming handhelds around.
While AYANEO did not confirm a release date during its mid-May product showcase, it has now opened pre-orders in China. As Liliputing notes, the company is allowing people to place a CNY 1,599 (~$220) downpayment against a future Pocket DMG purchase, albeit without revealing launch pricing yet. Potentially, this deposit could be upwards of 80% of the device's retail price, though. According to IT Home, an AYANEO employee informed it that the Pocket DMG will sell for between CNY 2,000 (~$275) and CNY 3,000 (~$412), although we imagine this will be entry-level pricing.
Unfortunately, it remains to be seen when AYANEO will offer the Pocket DMG globally through Indiegogo. Please note that there could be some caveats with the potential performance of the Pocket DMG. Specifically, independent reviews have shown that the Pocket S, which is larger than the Pocket DMG, thermally throttles considerably faster than the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2-powered AYN Odin2 (curr. $449 on Amazon). Please see our earlier Pocket DMG article for further hardware details.
