AYA Neo adds minor upgrades to the Air Lite handheld console spec list without modifying the price
Back in June, AYA Neo announced its Air thin and light handheld console with OLED display and the crowdfunding period that allows backers to pre-order units at a discounted price is set to end on August 23. In order to reduce production costs with diversified configurations, AYA Neo is now upgrading some specs for the entry-level Lite version so it is more in line with the standard version, without bumping the original US$549 price (US$499 for backers who pre-order before the end of August).
The main features are still the same, meaning that the final Lite version of the AYA Neo Air will start shipping in late August with an AMD Ryzen 5 5560U hexa-core processor that integrates a Vega 6 GPU, plus 8 GB of LPDDR4X-3200 RAM and a 128 GB SSD.
AYA Neo, nevertheless, decided to include a few upgrades a mere week before the end of the crowdfunding round. Just like the more expensive versions, the Lite model now integrates a fingerprint sensor placed on the right side of the upper edge. Additionally, the Lite model now comes with the same cooling modules and fans from the standard version, which enables a bit more headroom when it comes to TDP management.
Initially designed to run at a fixed 12 , the Ryzen 5 5560U TDP of the Lite version will now be user-configurable. By default it is set at 8 W, but users can lower it to 5 W when not playing complex games, or they can raise it to 15 W for more resource-intensive titles.
According to AYA Neo’s internal testing, the modest 28 Wh battery can last up to 2 hours if the processor TDP is set to 8 W. Bumping it up to 15 W reduced battery life by 1 h, but there is no battery life estimation for the 5 W TDP mode.
