SEGA Mega Drive Mini 2: European launch date and game collection revealed with Genesis Mini 2 release
SEGA has announced the release of the Mega Drive Mini 2 in Europe, two months after the retro console's Japanese unveiling. Confirmed on Twitter, the retro console will arrive on October 27 in Europe, the same day that the SEGA Genesis Mini 2 launches in North America, the Mega Drive Mini 2's sibling. For reference, SEGA will not sell the Mega Drive Mini 2 in North America, nor will the Genesis Mini 2 be available in Europe or Japan.
Regardless, SEGA has outlined all the games that it will pre-install on each system. Based on the list, European and North American models receive the same 61 games, or 60(+1) as SEGA advertises. Outlined below, some of the games are new and unreleased SEGA CD ports. For example, SEGA has included Ecco the Dolphin CD, Final Fight CD, Shining Force CD and Sonic CD, among others.
Additionally, SEGA has pre-installed other classic non-CD titles like After Burner 2, Desert Strike, Fatal Fury, Sonic 3D Blast and Virtua Racing. Unfortunately, it is unclear whether SEGA will offer the CD expansion module outside Japan. However, this is merely a decorative item, rather than adding any functionality to the Mega Drive Mini 2 or the Genesis Mini 2 themselves. While SEGA has not confirmed how much the retro console will cost in Europe or North America, pricing in Japan has been set at JPY 9,980 (~US$75). Presumably, the console will cost approximately as much in Europe and North America too.
