AMD is no stranger to launching multiple different SKUS of one base CPU. Let’s take the Ryzen 7 5800X3D, the first Ryzen CPU with 3D V-Cache. After initially releasing the Ryzen 7 5700X3D in April 2022, AMD launched the Ryzen 5 5600X3D in July 2023 as a binned-down version of the Ryzen 7 5800X3D with two fewer cores. Similarly, we’ve also seen AMD release the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the Ryzen 9 9950X3D.
It now appears that AMD is ready to launch another Zen5X3D CPU, as the company has quietly confirmed the existence of the Ryzen 7 9850X3D. The CPU now has an official “Drivers and Downloads” webpage on AMD’s French site. The page is sadly empty at the time of writing. So, we don’t have any technical details about the Ryzen 7 9850X3D.
In the meantime, we can infer some important details from the CPU name alone. Since the Ryzen 7 9850X3D falls under the “Ryzen 7” umbrella, it is likely an 8-core part like the Ryzen 7 9800X3D. However, the “xx50X3D” moniker indicates faster clocks. We don’t know exactly how fast the clocks will be, but the chatter online suggests a 400 MHz boost frequency increase. This should result in a measurable performance impact in games.
Sadly, there is no official word on pricing or release date. However, the emergence of an official CPU webpage should mean that the release date could be quite close. For price, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D is likely going to be more expensive than the Ryzen 7 9800X3D, which has an official MSPR of $479. However, the CPU is currently retailing for $449 on Amazon.
