AMD outsells Intel on Amazon
AMD has come out ahead of Intel on Amazon again in the US retail CPU market. According to data sourced by market analyst TechEpiphanyYT, AMD moved nearly 16,000 Ryzen 9800X3D and 7800X3D in October. The two chips alone outsold the entire Intel lineup, which captured less than 10,000 units.
Altogether, AMD claimed 83.8 percent of the market, leaving Intel with less than 20 percent.
Ryzen X3D leads for AMD
AMD’s X3D semiconductors dominated sales, with buyers not minding their higher price tags. In the budget segment, the Ryzen 5 5500 was the favourite, selling about 5,000 units. Intel’s best-performing chip was the Core Ultra 7 265K, which saw a bump after the price dropped below $300.
Price and performance divide
AMD averaged a selling price of $272.05 throughout the month, significantly lower than Intel’s $308.62. The sales are evidence of the former’s strategy of focusing on both performance and budget buyers. However, Intel continues to struggle with its 12th to 14th-generation chips amidst higher production costs.
Market implications
October sales data show AMD has no trouble attracting buyers to both its performance-focused and lower-cost CPUs. Meanwhile, Intel will have to find a way to appeal to customers as it continues to chase efficiency and cost balance, while its rival's prices remain stable.
