The AMD Ryzen 7 9850X3D has shown up online yet again, shortly after AMD accidentally listed the upcoming Zen 5 X3D CPU on its website. This time, it was spotted in a shipping manifest by an X leaker, and it tells us its base TDP is the same as the Ryzen 7 9800X3D: 120 Watts.
Unlike its name suggests, the Ryzen 7 9850X3D could be more than an incremental upgrade over the 9800X3D, although it will still likely stick with eight Zen 5 CPU cores. An earlier leak from Moore's Law is Dead implied it could come with a new CCD that allows for higher boost clocks. 5.5 GHz seems like a plausible figure out of the box because that's what the better-specced Ryzen 9 9900X3D operates at.
The new CCD should let overclockers push the Ryzen 7 9850X3D even further. With the proper cooling and silicon lottery, the coveted 6GHz figure might be plausible- a massive achievement for a Ryzen 7 X3D chip. So far, the 9850X3D does not have a release date, but given the increasing frequency of leaks, it'll likely surface at CES 2025 alongside the dual-X3D Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 and Gorgon Point laptop SKUs. Some new RDNA 4 GPUs could also show up, but no evidence about their launch has emerged so far.
