16,000 lumens, cameras and AI: This smart lighting system is anything but ordinary

A lamp that moves through the room on its own, follows its user, and combines lighting, cameras, and artificial intelligence: White Rabbit is an unusual smart home gadget. The floating light system runs on a ceiling-mounted rail, automatically adjusts brightness and color temperature, can function as a security camera, and even supports video calls. A fascinating Kickstarter discovery that sits somewhere between a vision of the future and a slight sense of unease.

While browsing Kickstarter, I came across a rather unusual product idea—and I’m still undecided whether I find it cool or slightly unsettling. Probably both. It’s called the White Rabbit 3-in-1 AI Companion. The device isn’t easy to describe, which is why a few images help make sense of it.

Visually, the spherical object is first and foremost a lamp—but a smart one. Instead of hanging from the ceiling, it moves along a rail mounted between two walls, allowing it to travel across the entire room near the ceiling (or anywhere else). This enables the lamp to quite literally “follow” the occupant and provide light wherever it’s needed. Sitting on the couch? The glowing sphere hovers above. Getting up to work at a desk? The lamp moves along the rail and lights the new spot.
