Xiaomi released the Redmi Note 8 phones back in August, as direct successors to the incredibly successful Redmi Note 7 phones. While some may claim the Redmi Note 8 series to be less attractive than their predecessors, sales have been impressive, as the company has confirmed that it’s sold 10 million Redmi Note 8 series units so far.
The Redmi Note 7 series had sold 20 million units by August, seven months or so after launch. It hit the 10-million milestone in May, four months after release. The Redmi Note 8 series doing 10 million in just three months means that it’s actually outselling the Redmi Note 7 phones, which is impressive no matter how you look at it.
Most enthusiasts may have panned the Redmi Note 8 for featuring a slightly weaker SoC than the Redmi Note 7—Snapdragon 665 versus Snapdragon 660. The fact that the Redmi Note 8 Pro features a MediaTek SoC doesn’t help matters much either. Both facts considered, it’s almost incredible that the Note 8 phones are outselling the Note 7 duo. It’s important to note that Xiaomi’s supply chain for the Note 8 has been a lot more efficient than it was for the Note 7 phones, so that has likely also played a part in this feat.
