The RedmiBook 13, as Xiaomi teased last week, is considerably more compact than its predecessor. The ultrabook measures 12.1 x 7.7 x 0.7-inches (307.34 x 195.58 x 17.78 mm) and weighs 2.7 lbs (1.22 kg), putting it on par with the footprints of many of its contemporaries. Xiaomi has still managed to include a 13.3-inch display in this compact chassis though, as the device's name suggests. The Chinese company boasts that the RedmiBook 13 has an 89% screen-to-body ratio, putting it just shy of laptops like the Huawei MateBook X Pro that exceed 90%. Xiaomi states that the panel operates natively at 1080p, but we are unsure of its peak luminosity for the time being.
Oddly, the RedmiBook 13 has comparatively outdated I/O. There are no USB Type-C ports onboard, with Xiaomi opting for two USB 3.1 Type-A ports, a full-sized HDMI and a proprietary charging port instead. There is a 3.5 mm jack too. Powering the RedmiBook 13 is a 40 Wh battery, which Xiaomi generously claims can last up to 11 hours on a single charge.
Unmistakeably, the RedmiBook looks like a MacBook Pro, with its silver chassis, colour contrasting keyboard and display bezel, along with its Helvetica-esque "RedmiBook" branding centred on the bottom bezel. Xiaomi has even ripped-off the mac OS sierra pink wallpaper in a nod to Apple. The RedmiBook 13 will start shipping in China on December 12. While it remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will release the ultrabook internationally, it will likely appear on third-party retailers like AliExpress and Gearbest among others. The RedmiBook 13 will be available in the following configurations:
