Chinese smartphone makers, in particular, are very keen on providing pre-release sample photos from their devices for promotional purposes. Of course, these photos should be approached with some scepticism because companies often hire professionals to get the most out of their phone cameras. This is very evident in the photos Oppo shared on Weibo on 28 March 2025, which are meant to showcase the quality of the 23 mm main shooter and the much improved 3x telephoto lens.
Top-notch performance from the main camera
The two sample photos below superbly demonstrate what consumers can achieve with a modern smartphone in “pro” mode, for example by experimenting with shutter speed. The main camera carries over the f/1.8 aperture and the 23 mm focal length equivalent from the Oppo Find X7 Ultra.
Main camera keeps the 1-inch sensor
In the teaser poster below, Oppo takes a playful jab at its sister company Vivo, questioning how a smartphone can be described as “Ultra” without a 1-inch sensor. This is a reference to the upcoming Vivo X200 Ultra featuring a 1/1.28-inch sensor instead of the larger 1-inch sensor on its predecessor, a downgrade seen on the Vivo X200 Pro as well. Much like Xiaomi with its Xiaomi 15 Ultra, Oppo continues to employ the largest sensor format available for smartphones right now. The trade-off is that the three other sensors on the Find X8 Ultra are smaller than their counterparts on the Vivo flagship phone.
The new star of the Hasselblad camera
Although the main camera has seen relatively little change, the dual periscope telephoto lenses have been vastly improved. Most notably, Oppo has drastically boost their light sensitivity by giving them significantly larger apertures. Whilst so far we have only seen Oppo's claims of a 251% increase in light intake for the 6x telephoto lens, the company has now released three truly impressive sample photos to show off the enhancements to the 3x telephoto camera.
Whilst the aperture size varied between f/2.0 and f/2.1 in the shots according to the Hasselblad watermarks, it's still considerably better than the f/2.6 offered by the predecessor model. The 70 mm telephoto lens excels at being a fast portrait camera (one of its core functions). The photographer did a particular great job in the last photo.
Portrait comparison with unknown competitors
Oppo manager Zhou Bao recently uploaded the photo comparison below to Weibo, showcasing the low-light performance of the new Oppo camera alongside four unidentified smartphones. As the company put it bluntly, the Find X8 Ultra stands out as a clear winner in this comparison.

Besides the cameras, there is also plenty of new information about Oppo's new phones and other upcoming products, such as tablets and wearables, set to debut on 10 April in China. For example, the teaser images below provide a display comparison and a closer look at the action button, which replaces the alert slider on older Oppo and OnePlus phones.
