No more ThinkPad Yoga: New Lenovo ThinkPad X13 2-in-1 comes to the market
In 2012, Lenovo released the ThinkPad X230 Tablet. This last classic X tablet with swivel hinge would be replaced in 2013 by a device simply called: The Lenovo ThinkPad Yoga. The new 360 degree hinge convertible design continues to rule supreme to this day, although the ThinkPad Yoga later re-merged with the ThinkPad X series. The newest model of this line is the ThinkPad X13 Yoga Gen 4.
This will remain the newest and last, as Lenovo is killing the ThinkPad Yoga naming - but not the line. Instead, the new Lenovo ThinkPad X13 2-in-1 Gen 5 adopts the same naming as the ThinkPad X1 2-in-1. Unlike that device, however, the X13 2-in-1 simply continues to use the same design as the X13 Yoga Gen 4 (available from Amazon). All of the changes are on the inside.
Of course, since this is a 2024 model, the new Lenovo convertible uses Intel Core Ultra. Unlike the non-convertible X13 Gen 5, the X13 2-in-1 G5 will only feature Core Ultra U CPUs, meaning buyers do not get to enjoy the new Intel ARC GPU.
On a positive note, there are no more 8 GB RAM options with this new model, with 16 GB of RAM forming the new baseline. The maximum RAM is increased to 64 GB. Also new: WiFi 7.
Otherwise, the new model is largely the same as its ThinkPad Yoga predecessor, with the integrated pen, typical ThinkPad design and all the ports you expect to have on a compact ThinkPad laptop.
The Lenovo ThinkPad X13 2-in-1 is close to being released if it is already in the PSREF.
