Lenovo Daystar Bot GS robot makes quiet debut, wins 2024 iF Design Award
Lenovo Daystar Bot GS, which appears to be the successor of the Daystar Robot showcased in 2020, has made a quiet debut on the iF Design site. Not only did the robot get silently announced, but it has even won 2024 iF Design Award.
While the Daystar Bot GS may appear similar to Boston Dynamics' Spot, there are some differences. One of the main standouts is that Lenovo isn't calling the robot a dog, probably because it has three pairs of legs instead of two. Instead, the manufacturer refers to it as a "Legged Robot For Inspection Solution."
As for the design, the description at the iF Design Site says that the six legs of the robot guarantee "unmatched stability and maneuverability." With that, Lenovo claims that the Daystar Bot GS robot can "traverse diverse terrains with ease."
Although we don't have a full spec sheet yet, Lenovo did mention that the Daystar Bot GS robot has "an advanced control system, cutting-edge perception algorithms, and IP66" protection. These, according to the manufacturer, enable the GS to outperform "in unforeseen scenarios."
Getting back to the differences, the Lenovo Daystar Bot GS appears to have a wider "face" than the Spot from Boston Dynamics. The images showcased on the iF Design website also suggest that there are at least three cameras on the "face," with the side and top featuring additional techs.
Another aspect Lenovo didn't offer details on is the exact launch date. However, the iF Design site mentions that the Daystar Bot GS robot will be released later this year, and it will target the Asian market. The website also states that it will be for business, public sector, and government use.
