MagyarBYD unveils new e2 Glory Edition as cheaper electric hatchback
BYD has launched the e2 Glory Edition, a new version of its electric family hatchback, in China. The EV arrives at a lower price than its predecessor, starting at 89,800 yuan (~$12,500), with a second Luxury option featuring various upgrades at 96,800 yuan (~$13,500). For content, the 2023 e2 EVs went on sale for 102,800 yuan (~$14,300) and 109,800 yuan (~$15,300).
The e2 Glory Edition is based on BYD’s e-Platform 3.0 with a 70 kW motor delivering up to 180 Nm torque and a 43.2 kWh battery for a CLTC range of 405 km (~250 miles). The EV has VtoL (Vehicle to Load) technology, allowing you to use the onboard battery to power an external device with an output of up to 3.3 kW. Other features include a smartphone NFC key, a reversing camera system, and a rotating infotainment screen, 10.1 inches wide for the standard model and 12.8 inches wide for the Luxury version.
The refreshed BEV is part of BYD’s Ocean series, with the first e2 launching in 2019. The launch of the e2 Glory Edition, also called the e2 Honor Edition by some media outlets, is part of BYDs wider strategy to increase EV uptake through lower prices. For example, the BYD Seagull Glory Edition was recently unveiled, leading some US senators to call for increased import tariffs on EVs from Chinese manufacturers.
