OnePlus started off making "flagship killers" at mid-range prices. The brand has slowly moved upmarket but is apparently set to offer a proper mid-range phone again, in the form of a OnePlus 8 Lite that'll be a successor of sorts to 2015's underwhelming OnePlus X.

The first OnePlus device, the OnePlus One, cost about US$300. Since then, though, OnePlus has steadily increased device prices, culminating in the launch of the US$669 OnePlus 7 Pro earlier this year. It would seem, however, that the company plans to offer something in the price bracket of the original OnePlus One: the OnePlus 8 Lite. It attempted something similar a few years ago with the OnePlus X, but that didn't pan out too well.

Going by the leak, OnePlus will launch the OnePlus 8 Lite alongside the OnePlus 8 phones. We expect an early May release, as is typical with the company. The OnePlus 8 Lite will feature a 6.4-inch display. It may be a cheaper phone but it will not be smaller. The display is flat, thankfully.

There's a Galaxy Note 10-esque center hole punch housing a selfie camera at the front of the device. The back plays host to a dual camera setup, with the module having a design not unlike what we've seen from Galaxy S11 leaks. There also appears to be a ToF sensor and an LED flash.

On the bottom of the OnePlus 8 Lite is a Type-C port and microphones. There is no headphone jack present. Interestingly, though, neither is there a speaker grille. That could mean the presence of front-firing speaker in the phone's chin.

There's no capacitive fingerprint reader on the phone's back, so that's an indication of an under-display sensor, which in turn tells us that the display is an AMOLED one. Whether it'll be a 60 Hz or 90 Hz type is unknown, however. OnePlus did say it was transitioning to 90 Hz displays a while ago, though, so we're hoping it's the latter.
