The Intel Core i3-10100Y is a efficient dual-core SoC for tablets and passively cooled laptops based on the old Amber Lake generation from 2018. It was announced in Q1 2021 and is similar to the old Core i5-8200Y. The only difference is a slightly higher GPU clock (+50 MHz).
The CPU consists of two processor cores clocked at 1.3 - 3.9 GHz. Thanks to Hyper Threading, the processor can execute up to four threads simultaneously. The chips also includes the Intel HD Graphics 615 GPU, a dual-channel memory controller (DDR3L/LPDDR3) as well as VP9 and H.265 video de- and encoder.
Architecture
Intel basically used the familiar micro architecture from the Skylake / Kaby Lake generation, so the per-MHz performance is identical.
Performance
The average 10100Y in our database is just a little ahead of the AMD 3050e, as far as multi-thread benchmark scores are concerned, the latter being an entry-level, dual-core processor of the same energy efficiency based on the Zen architecture. This makes the Core i3 an OK option for basic day-to-day activities, as of mid 2022.
Your mileage may vary depending on how high the CPU power limits are.
Graphics
The integrated Intel UHD Graphics 615 iGPU has 24 Execution Units (EUs) not unlike the older HD Graphics 515 and runs at up to 1,000 MHz. The performance heavily depends on the TDP limit as well as the memory configuration; with fast LPDDR3-1866 RAM in dual-channel mode, the GPU should sometimes be able to compete with the HD Graphics 520, but can also be much slower in other scenarios. Modern games from 2016 will, if at all, only run smoothly in the lowest settings.
Contrary to Skylake, Kaby Lake and Amber Lake now also supports hardware decoding for H.265/HEVC Main10 with a 10-bit color depth as well as Google's VP9 codec.
Power consumption
This little Core i3 here has a default TDP, also known as the long-term power limit, of 5 W that laptop makers are free to change to anything between 3.5 W and 7 W with clock speeds and performance changing accordingly as a result. Either way, the values are low and thus good enough for passively cooled tablets, laptops, mini-PCs and handhelds.
The i3-10100Y is built with one of the old 14 nm Intel manufacturing processes for low, as of early 2023, energy efficiency.
Intel Core i3-2365M
► remove from comparison![Intel 2365M](typo3temp/_processed_/1/d/csm_i3_badge_07_701b9a829b.jpg)
The Intel Core i3-2365M is a power efficient ULV (Ultra Low Voltage) processor for thin and light laptops. The base frequency of 1.4 GHz is relatively low and the CPU does not support Turbo Boost for automatic overclocking. Due to HyperThreading, the i3-2365M is able to handle 4 threads in parallel. Compared to similar clocked Celeron and Pentium models, the i3 features the faster HD 3000 graphics card and offers more enabled features (like Quick Sync). However, compared to the expensive i7 CPUs, the i3 lacks VT-d, Trusted Execution and VPro support. The difference to the similar Core i3-2367M is just the Small Business Advantage (SBA) support (needed for the Ultrabook logo).
Sandy Bridge is the evolutionary successor of the Arrandale architecture. The most notable improvements is the improved Turbo 2.0 (not used for the processing cores in the i3-2365M) and the integration of the graphics card into the 32nm CPU core.
The integrated Intel HD Graphics 3000 clocked at 350 or 1000 MHz (Turbo Boost). Due to the slower clock rate without the Turbo, compared to HD Graphics 3000 in 35W and 45W processors (usually clocked at 650 base speed in non LV processors), the performance should be noticeable lower.
The performance of the CPU should be a bit higher than a similar clocked Arrandale Core i3 ULV and therefore faster than the 1.33 GHz Core i3-380UM. The average performance of the CPU part should therefore be similar to the AMD A4-3300M. Detailed benchmarks can also be found on the CPU page of the Core i3-2367M.
The TDP of 17W (includes the integrated GPU and memory controller) allows the use of the 2365M CPU in small subnotebooks.
Intel Core i3-2310M
► remove from comparison![Intel 2310M](typo3temp/_processed_/1/5/csm_i3_badge_3403427335.jpg)
The Intel Core i3-2310M is a dual core processor for laptops. It is based on the Sandy Bridge architecture and offers Hyperthreading to handle 4 threads at once (for a better usage of the pipeline). Compared to the faster Core i5, the i3 does not offer the Turbo Boost technique for the CPU part and is therefore clocked at 2.1 GHz (max).
Sandy Bridge is the evolutionary successor of the Arrandale architecture. The most noteable improvements are the new 256Bit AVX instructions, the improved Turbo 2.0 and the integration of the graphics card into the 32nm CPU core.
Der i3-2310M offers an integrated graphics card ( Intel HD Graphics 3000) which is clearly faster then the older Intel HD Graphics in the Arrandale CPUs. As the new GPU is included in the CPU, it is also manufactured in 32nm and shares the fast level 3 cache with the CPU cores (using a new ring bus). In the 2310M it is clocked from 650-1100MHz (with Turbo Boost). The faster Sandy Bridge CPUs are clocked up to 1300 MHz (like the i5-2520M).
Furthermore, an improved dual-channel DDR3 memory controller is included on the CPU die that is used by the CPU and GPU part.
Due to the improved architecture, the average performance of the Core i3-2310M is higher than a similar clocked Arrandale Core i3 without Turbo Boost. In synthetic benchmarks, the performance was about on par with the faster clocked Core i5-430M (2.3-2.5 GHz) and therefore adequate for most applications.
The 35W TDP rating includes the integrated GPU and memory controller.
