Xiaomi's collaboration with Goodix continues with the Watch Color 2 and Xiaomi Civi
Xiaomi recently launched two new tech products in China—the Xiaomi Civi and Xiaomi Watch Color 2. The company has a strong relationship with hardware maker Goodix and both the Civi and Watch Color feature hardware made by the semiconductor maker.
On the Xiaomi Civi, Goodix supplies an optical fingerprint reader. While some may prefer ultrasonic readers, Xiaomi has stuck rather firmly to optical fingerprint readers so far. This collaboration goes way back as well, with Goodix also providing a similar solution for the Mi 9T that was released back in 2019.
The Xiaomi Watch Color 2 features two hardware solutions from Goodix. The first is an on-body detection sensor, using a capacitive sensor to detect if the Watch Color 2 is being worn. This allows the Watch Color 2 to turn off its display and health-monitoring functions when not actively in use. The second is a smart sound amplifier chip for enhancing the speakers of the Watch Color 2. The class-D amplifier has also seen use on smartphones from Huawei, Samsung, and a slew of other Android OEMs.
