There is some unfortunate news for owners of some of Xiaomi’s most popular and best-selling smartphones. Devices such as the Xiaomi Mi 9 and Redmi Note 8 Pro have appeared on a shortlist of products that are reaching their EOL. According to information provided by Xiaomiui, this means there will be no further internal development of beta software for these phones.
The nine devices that are expected to go to EOL status from November 27 are as follows:
- Xiaomi Mi 9
- Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G
- Xiaomi Mi 9 SE
- Xiaomi Mi CC9 (Mi 9 Lite)
- Xiaomi Mi CC9 Meitu Edition
- Redmi K20
- Redmi K20 Pro
- Redmi Note 8
- Redmi Note 8 Pro
Users of these phones will get certain updates after this particular EOL deadline but only for stable variants of the present firmware. There will be no further beta development for the products on this list. While the Mi 9 was originally released in March 2019, the Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro came out later that year, in August.
Xiaomi has recently announced increased support for its new devices, stating that it will offer four years of security updates and three major Android-related upgrades for the Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro phones. Owners of the EOL products will still be able to use their phones as normal and will receive app updates, as it is just the operating system software that will cease being upgraded.
