Xiaomi launches new affordable smartphone with large 6.9-inch screen

Xiaomi has officially introduced the Redmi A7 Pro smartphone in the Indian market. It’s the first Pro smartphone in the company’s A-series lineup that features a notably large display and a big battery. Speaking more precisely, the Redmi A7 Pro is equipped with a 6.9-inch HD+ display with a 120 Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 800 nits.
This time around, Redmi went with a Unisoc processor for its latest smartphone. The A7 Pro is powered by a Unisoc T8300 processor paired with 4 GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 128 GB of UFS 2.2 internal storage with room for storage expansion via a microSD card slot. A large 6,300 mAh battery powers the entire smartphone and supports 15 W wired charging (Belkin 20 W USB-C charger curr. at $9.99 on Amazon). Interestingly, the affordable smartphone also has 7.5 W reverse-wired charging support.
Software-wise, it runs Android 16-based HyperOS 3 out of the box, and Xiaomi promises four years of major OS updates (up to Android 20) and six years of security patches until 2032. Despite being an entry-level smartphone, Redmi is offering this level of software commitment, which is impressive. Though, it still falls behind Samsung’s budget-focused Galaxy M36 5G smartphone software update policy with 6 + 6 years of software updates and security patches.
For photography, you get a 32 MP primary camera sensor and an 8 MP snapper at the front for selfies and video chats. The rest of the highlights include a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, a USB-C port, an IP52 water resistance rating, WiFi, and Bluetooth 5.4.
Buyers can choose from mist blue, sunset orange, and black color options. As for price, the Redmi A7 Pro starts at INR 11,499 (~$125) for the base 4 GB + 64 GB model, whereas the 4 GB + 128 GB variant costs INR 12,499 (~$135). The smartphone will be available on April 15 via Xiaomi India’s official website and other authorized retailers.
