Redmi A7 Pro: New budget smartphone confirmed with global release looking likely

Early information about a nuew budget Xiaomi smartphone has emerged online. Unlike many early leaks and rumours, we already know the model nuber and the retail name of the smartphone in question. That does not necessarily mean that the device is set for an immediate release, though.

As the screenshot below shows, Xiaomi has certified the Redmi A7 Pro with the Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA). A UAE regulatory body, the TDRA links the name 'Redmi A7 Pro' with the model number 25128RN17Y of which 25128RN17 is the root. Unfortunately, the TDRA does not elaborate further about hardware specifications.

Still, the certification indicates that Xiaomi has decided to skip the Redmi A6 series altogether. Moreover, Xiaomi's past performance with the Redmi A5 (curr. $82.50 on Amazon) suggests that the Redmi A7 Pro will receive a global release as 25128RN17G. The Redmi A5 will reach its first anniversary next month. Therefore, we would expect Xiaomi to introduce new Redmi A series smartphones this spring. Whether that includes a cheaper Redmi A7 remains to be seen at this point, though.
